White sand beach and a down day at Pruth Bay, 08.31.2013

This morning just as the sun was rising Sea Witch pulled anchor and continued south, we’re hoping that our paths may cross again on our journey.

As it rained yesterday we never got the opportunity to head into shore to see the Hakai Beach Institute or the white sandy beach.  The weather today was pleasant so we decided to stay an extra day to enjoy Pruth Bay.

After breakfast we rowed over to the dock at the Hakai Beach Institute where they have a nice boardwalk trail that leads to the beach.

The Hakai Beach Institute is owned by the Tula Foundation which focus’ on fisheries research, environmental stewardship, and nursing for isolated communities of the central coast.  This facility is being used as a conference center and for lab research and they have really made this a beautiful facility.

After wondering around the Institute

we took the boardwalk trail and headed to the beach.

We found a trail marker at the south end of the beach and also found Addie from Vikinghavn picking up shells.

The trail marker gives you a choice of either “lookout and/or beach”.

Addie joined us as we hiked uphill to the lookout and the view was spectacular!

We had heard from several people that the sunset on this beach is not something to miss so we found that the sunset for this evening is scheduled for 8:20pm.  So we got to the beach at 7:40pm, gathered some firewood, started a fire and enjoyed a peaceful sunset.

This was a great anchorage to spend 2 days!
