Saxman Totem Park, Ketchikan, AK 06.11.2013

About 3 miles south of Ketchikan is a large collection of totem poles at Saxman Totem Park.  These are totem poles that have been gathered from various locations and brought to this small native Tlingit village.

We caught the local bus and found that most of the park was closed (no cruise ship excursions at the time we were there) so we were unable to go into the long house but we did overhear a little bit about the totems from a guide that showed up with some people in tow.  We all agreed that if we were to visit again, we definitely would have a guide.  The totems were very different from ones I had seen previously.
